Born in the United Kingdom in 1954, Nigel was raised in France and has spent a significant portion of his professional life in Italy. He graduated in European Studies from Loughborough University and holds an Executive MBA from Harvard University. In addition to English, Nigel is fluent in French, German and Italian.
Nigel began his working career as a journalist in France and Belgium. Following various jobs in marketing and export development, Nigel joined United Distillers (now Diageo), where he spent eight years in various posts before becoming Director of Sales and Marketing for Europe and Africa and General Manager for Italy. As GM for the Italian unit, Nigel was responsible for rationalizing distribution and ultimately the acquisition and integration of a distribution company.
Following his experience at United Distillers, Nigel joined the Bologna-based Gio. Buton & C. S.p.A. group, Italy’s number one producer of spirits. Over the course of 4 years as Export Manager, Nigel relaunched the Buton et Vecchia Romagna brands through a combination of revised packaging and product line rationalization, producing significant improvements in overall sales and profitability. Nigels efforts are compensated by promotion to the General Management of Fratelli Rinaldi, import subsidiary of Gio. Buton & Cie S.p.A. handling wines and spirits. As General Manager, Nigel implemented a product review which lead directly to an increased product offering and restored profitability.
In 1994, Nigel created his own consulting service building on his experience in marketing and research to serve name brands such as Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Coca-Cola Ltd. and Scottish & Newcastle. In addition, Nigel and working closely with a number of Italian package-goods and wine producers to develop brand strategies for European markets
In 1999 Nigel added to his brand consulting activities representation of Food From Britain, the marketing agency of reference for British package-goods in Italy. The consultancy works extensively with British food processors in an advisory capacity to identify markets and products, develop market entry and support strategies and accompany manufacturers in implementing local mergers and acquisitions. Nigel was responsible for bringing in clients such as Quaker, United Biscuits, Whitbread, Diageo, Allied Domecq, Saint-Ivel, Geest and a number of other firms.
Nigel has been living in France since 2007 where he is focused on projects for the development of businesses.
